What is Play Therapy?

Play therapy is to kids what traditional counseling is to adults. While play therapy can look like children interacting with toys, it provides therapists with a window into children's inner thoughts.

Playing is a child’s natural expression and toys are a child’s words. At Broward Therapists, our highly trained clinicians provide a safe environment with carefully selected toys and materials, allowing kids to express themselves and their feelings. By using play, kids participate in storytelling with our therapists, opening a window into their deeper feelings. Our therapists can then meet your child where they are and, through observation, provide a pathway toward healing.

When to try Play Therapy

Play therapy is beneficial for children ages 4-12 and helps children in various circumstances, including those experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, problem behavior, ADHD, developmental disabilities and more.

While it’s normal for kids to face challenges, some signs may indicate deeper struggles that need your attention:

  • Sudden changes in behavior

  • Ongoing sadness or anxiety

  • Having difficulty in school

  • Change in sleep patterns or eating behaviors

  • Withdrawing from friends or family
