What to Expect: From Your First Call to First Therapy Session

Even if you’re confident in your decision to start therapy, it’s understandable that anticipatory anxiety and apprehension may set in before you make the call to book an appointment.

At Broward Therapists, we understand those feelings and want to make the process as simple as possible. Here’s what you can expect from the moment you call our office to when you begin your first session at Broward Therapists.

Your First Call:

When you decide to call, our Client Care Coordinator, Annissa, will be happy to assist you in scheduling your initial assessment. Don’t worry, there’s no pressure for the assessment. We just want to learn about you so we can match you with the best therapist suited for your needs.

Before your assessment and throughout the process, Annissa will help you work through insurance and answer any questions as you schedule your first appointment. Annissa is here to make sure you have all the information you need to feel confident and comfortable every step of the way.

Before your appointment:

Now that your first appointment is booked, you may be wondering what to do to prepare for your first therapy session. For the most part, nothing. And don’t worry, that’s a good thing because our licensed therapists will handle all the work for you.

If you want, you can always write down questions you want to ask, thoughts you’ve been having or anything on your mind to bring to your first session.

At Broward Therapists, you’re a part of our family. Whether in person or online, our goal is to make your first appointment as smooth and comfortable as possible—and that means making it as easy as possible.

What your first session is like:

The best way to think about your first therapy session is as a simple conversation. Our licensed counselors will ask questions to learn about you, your past, why you want to start therapy and your goals.

During your first session, our therapists are learning about you so they can find a way to best help you. You may, or may not, get into heavy topics in the first appointment. It’s all up to you. And while we encourage you to be open and vulnerable, don’t share anything you’re not ready to.

Here at Broward Therapists, we want you to go at your own pace during sessions. Know that it's okay to take your time.

What to expect after your first session:

Most therapy sessions last between 30-50 minutes. As your session wraps up, our therapists will reflect on what you shared and work with you on a plan for what’s next.

Following your session, you might feel the need to pause—whether by breathing deeply, stretching, or taking a walk—to help your body and mind process the experience. We also encourage you to take a moment for gratitude, recognizing the courage it takes to invest in your well-being.

Here at Broward Therapists, we’re honored to be part of your path to mental wellness. When you’re ready to start, we will be here.
