Canicia Smith Fostin
LMHC, CCTP, MCAP
Iām Canica, a mental health professional who has worked with multicultural clients and students both internationally and locally. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), Masters Certified Addiction Professional (MCAP), and certified in Good Clinical Practice.
Throughout my career, I have learned that patience, curiosity, and compassion are needed in understanding the complexities of experiences that we go through. I am a firm believer in personalizing therapy to meet you where you are. Being a part of your healing journey is a responsibility and privilege.
I am dedicated to serving my community and enjoy working with both students and adults. I have worked with first responders, culturally diverse populations, and faith-focused individuals. I love working in areas of self-esteem, addiction, trauma, interpersonal relationships involving grief and loss, disruptions in relationships, role transitions, and interpersonal deficits.
I utilize evidence-based approaches that include Motivational Enhancement Techniques, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, Schema Therapy, and Interpersonal Psychotherapy.
The principles of honesty, integrity, and respect are at the core of my practice. You can expect someone who is graceful, kind, and gentle but firm in keeping you accountable. Being an active listener helps me guide you to identify your needs, stimulate change, and self-discovery. I will support you through this process and help you re-define your life.
