What is Internal Family Systems Therapy?
Have you ever felt so overwhelmed or anxious that you didn’t know where to turn or what to do next? At Broward Therapists, one of the ways our counselors can help clients experiencing different struggles, such as these, is through the Internal Family Systems therapy approach.
What is Internal Family Systems?
The Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy model sees every person as a whole Self, with multiple parts or subpersonalities within. Think about it this way: when you have an upcoming event, it’s common to have one part of you that wants to go and another that wants to stay home.
According to the creator of IFS, Richard Schwartz, our brains have parts that are multifunctional.
However, there are times when our parts can begin to dominate our minds, with anxiety, worry or PTSD. But, by giving each of these parts a space to rant, rave, grieve or explain, with a trained therapist, our internal “self” can live in harmony. Therefore, IFS and IFS-trained therapists at Broward Therapists teach you to bring all of your parts into wholeness again through different tools and techniques.
Who can benefit from IFS?
IFS is a helpful approach for those experiencing anxiety, depression, addiction, eating disorders, trauma, PTSD, OCD, relationship issues and more.
What sets IFS apart from other methods?
The “self” is what makes IFS unique compared to other therapy methods. Since IFS centers on realizing that there are no “bad parts” within our self, but rather, each part works together, IFS can help you feel heard, understood and valued.
