Can I do couples & marriage counseling online in Florida?
Yes, Broward Therapists offers telehealth throughout Florida. Whether online or in-person care is the best fit depends on privacy, safety, preferences, the concern being treated and your clinician's recommendation.
How long does couples & marriage counseling take?
Every relationship is different, so we cannot predict an exact number of sessions in advance. At Broward Therapists, we begin with an assessment to understand your shared goals and the concerns bringing you to counseling, such as recurring arguments, communication difficulties, emotional distance, or broken trust. As therapy progresses, you and your therapist review how you are handling disagreements, understanding each other, and applying changes outside of sessions. Your progress and ongoing needs help guide how often you meet and when it may be appropriate to reduce sessions or finish counseling.
Is couples & marriage counseling appropriate for everyone?
Not necessarily. Fit depends on age, goals, symptoms, history, safety, readiness and the clinician's assessment. The practice may recommend a different service, format or outside referral when that would be more appropriate.

At Broward Therapists
Starting couples counseling with us.
How the first assessment works, how we choose a clinician, and what to ask before you begin.
Do both partners come to the first appointment?
Yes. We ask both partners to attend the initial assessment. Your therapist will hear how each of you sees the relationship, what each person hopes will change, and what goals you may share. They’ll also pay attention to how you interact. Both people should have room to be heard, so the therapist will guide the conversation rather than let the appointment become a debate over every event.
How do you choose a couples therapist?
We consider the couple’s needs, the level of conflict, the clinician’s approach, and their experience managing the kinds of conversations that may arise. A couple looking to strengthen communication may need a different fit from a couple whose sessions are likely to involve intense conflict or reactivity. We look beyond a single issue, such as an affair, to consider how the partners respond to each other and what support the work will require.
Should one partner start individual therapy first?
You can bring this concern to the initial assessment. Hearing both perspectives helps the therapist consider whether couples counseling, individual support, or a combination would be the most useful next step. The assessment is a place to discuss that question together.
What should we ask before starting?
Ask how the therapist structures early sessions, how they guide conversations when conflict rises, what each partner might practice between appointments, and how you’ll know whether the work is helping. You can also ask about current scheduling and whether in-person or online appointments are available.

Do you offer couples counseling in Plantation?
Couples and marriage counseling is one of the practice's listed services, and Plantation is one of three Broward Therapists offices. Which clinicians currently take couples at that location can change, so call 754-837-1804 to confirm before scheduling.
Can couples therapy be done online?
Yes. Couples sessions can be held by telehealth anywhere in Florida, which can help when partners travel or keep different schedules. Some couples prefer the office; both formats are offered.
What approaches do your therapists use in couples counseling?
At Broward Therapists, our clinicians draw from the Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Systems Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. The approaches used vary by clinician and are guided by your relationship’s needs and goals. During your initial assessment, we learn about both partners’ perspectives and the patterns you want to change, helping us recommend a therapist whose skills fit your situation.
Can we start counseling before getting married?
Yes. Broward Therapists offers premarital counseling using the SYMBIS assessment, followed by a review with a trained therapist.
SYMBIS helps you explore how your personalities, communication styles, responses to conflict, and approaches to money may shape your marriage. Your results provide a starting point for meaningful conversations about your strengths, differences, and expectations for life together.
With your therapist, you can use those insights to identify areas you want to strengthen and practice ways to navigate disagreements with greater understanding. The focus is on preparing for the relationship you want to build together.
What if my partner isn’t ready to come to therapy?
You can still seek support on your own. At Broward Therapists, we begin with an individual assessment to understand your concerns and goals, then recommend next steps. This may include individual therapy.
Individual sessions can help you work toward personal goals, such as setting boundaries, expressing your needs, and understanding how you respond to relationship challenges. These changes may also benefit your relationship, although you cannot control your partner’s choices or participation.
If your partner later becomes willing to attend, we can discuss whether couples counseling would be an appropriate next step.
Is it possible to rebuild our relationship after infidelity?
Rebuilding trust may be possible when the infidelity has ended and both partners are willing to work toward a shared goal. At Broward Therapists, we begin by understanding each partner’s perspective and what they want for the relationship.
If you are the partner who had the affair, you may worry about being blamed or shamed in sessions. Our role is to guide honest, respectful conversations where both partners can be heard. Taking responsibility for the hurt caused is part of the work, and your therapist supports that process without humiliation or taking sides.
Our work may follow three stages: atone, attune, and attach—taking responsibility and addressing the hurt, understanding each other’s feelings and needs, and gradually rebuilding connection. We do not rush forgiveness or promise a particular outcome.
How long should we expect to attend couples counseling?
Every relationship is different, so we cannot predict an exact number of sessions in advance. At Broward Therapists, we begin with an assessment to understand your shared goals and the concerns bringing you to counseling, such as recurring arguments, communication difficulties, emotional distance, or broken trust.
As therapy progresses, you and your therapist review how you are handling disagreements, understanding each other, and applying changes outside of sessions. Your progress and ongoing needs help guide how often you meet and when it may be appropriate to reduce sessions or finish counseling.
Will our insurance help cover the cost of couples therapy?
Coverage depends on your insurance plan and its requirements for the services provided. At Broward Therapists, our team verifies your insurance benefits before sessions so you can better understand your coverage and any expected out-of-pocket costs.
Let our Client Care team know that you are seeking couples counseling so we can check the relevant benefits. Verification is not a guarantee that your insurer will pay a claim.
Can couples therapy help us stop having the same arguments?
Couples therapy can help you understand the pattern that keeps an argument repeating. At Broward Therapists, we explore the “dance” between you—how each partner responds and how those responses affect what happens next.
We look beneath the topic of the disagreement to understand whether either partner feels unheard, overwhelmed, stressed, or uncared for. The goal is to help both of you recognize your part in the pattern, express what you need more clearly, and practice different ways of responding.
Will the therapist take sides or blame one of us?
At Broward Therapists, your couples therapist aims to remain objective and support the relationship. We often describe this as being “on the side of the marriage”—helping you understand what is happening between you and work toward the goals you identify together.
Both partners deserve to feel heard. Your therapist helps each of you explore your perspective, recognize patterns, and take responsibility for behaviors that affect the relationship. This may include challenging conversations, approached with respect rather than blame or shame.
Supporting the relationship also means taking each person’s safety and well-being seriously.
What if one of us wants to stay together and the other is unsure?
You do not have to arrive with the same level of certainty. At Broward Therapists, we recognize the effort it takes for an unsure partner to show up and participate in a difficult conversation.
Your therapist explores that uncertainty objectively, giving both partners room to discuss their concerns, hopes, and what would need to change. We want to understand what is contributing to the hesitation and what each person needs to make a thoughtful decision.
The goal is greater clarity about your relationship and possible next steps. Your therapist will not pressure either partner to stay or leave, or assume that attending means you have already committed to reconciliation.
Is it too late to work on our relationship?
Feeling that you have waited too long does not mean there is no hope. A willingness to work on your relationship brings hope and motivation—important starting points for therapy—even when the difficulties have been present for years.
At Broward Therapists, we begin by understanding where each partner stands, what you want to change, and what moving forward could look like. You do not need to have all the answers before your first appointment.
Counseling offers space to explore whether rebuilding connection is possible and what that work would require. We cannot promise a particular outcome, but we can help you approach your next steps with greater understanding and clarity.
